Abstract:
The study was aimed to determine the level of satisfaction of children in healthcare services provided by orphanages in Baguio City and Benguet. The quantitative research design specifically the descriptive and correlational research methods were used to implement the study.
The study was conducted in orphanages located in Baguio City and Benguet Province. Three out of the eight centres and institutions for children (37.5%) rendered their approval to the conduct of study: Helping hands, healing Hearts Ministries, Social Development Centre, and Reception and Study Centre for Children. Thirty one respondents were randomly selected, who should be 8 years old and above, and stayed for a minimum of a year within the institution. A structured survey via guided questionnaires was utilized in obtaining data for the profile and healthcare services satisfaction of the respondents. The data gathered from the respondents were classified and presented in tables, and statistically analysed, discussed and interpreted accordingly using percentage formula.
Results showed that the children were satisfied with the medical-dental and psychological-spiritual services provided by the orphanages. Moreover, the level of satisfaction did not differ regardless of sex, age and duration of stay in the orphanage. The responses of the respondents show that the health services provided are satisfactory.
The following are recommended: First, the orphanages to continue to render efficient healthcare to the orphans; Second, psychological-spiritual services to be enhanced; Third, dissemination of the results and findings of this study to increase awareness, thus improving further the services being provided by such institutions; Fourth, future researchers to be conducted in broader population including the other orphanages existing in Baguio City and Benguet, implement and in-depth revised survey questions and pursue comparative studies regarding the orphanage and residential facilities; and Lastly, to consider the comparison on the services provided by non-government and government orphanages.
