Abstract:
The study was conducted to document and analyze the effects and contributions of ‘Fortan’ Festival of Barlig, Mountain Province. ‘Fortan’ Festival is documented for the people of Barlig to understand the importance of the festival, to preserve the community’s culture, and to showcase the unique activities and products of the town. Specifically, the study aimed to the identify the processes involved in the festival, identify the different activities involved in the festival, identify the contributions of the festival to the community, determine the values learned by the respondents from the festival, determine the challenges encountered during the celebration of the festival, and gather suggestions from the respondents for the improvement of the festival.
There are six key informants from different offices, committee heads and were part of the planning of the festival. There are also 33 community respondents from the 11 barangay of the municipality, they were chosen using criteria.
The processes involved in the festival were determined by the key informants which are the planning stage, implementing stage, monitoring stage and evaluation stage.
Most activities are based on the traditional way of living of the community such as the indigenous games and cultural presentations.
The contributions of the festival to the community were categorized as economy, environment, community cohesion, tourism and culture. In terms of communicated values of the festival to community were identified by the respondents.
Moreover, according to the community respondents, insufficient fund, lack of community participation, lack of information dissemination, problems on waste management and organizers do not follow rules are the problems that the community face during the celebration of the festival.
