Abstract:
The study was conducted to determine the post-production practices in non-linear editor softwares of self-taught digital video practitioners in La Trinidad, Benguet. Specific objectives were to determine: the socio-demographic profile of the respondents; the perceived practice level of the respondents of universal NLE tasks; the respondents’ best NLE practices in terms of capturing, editing, finishing, archiving and distributing; the values and skills involved in post-production; and the challenges encountered and perceived solution in post-production process.
The study was conducted in La Trinidad, Benguet from December 2015 to June 2016 using survey questionnaire, unstructured interview and participatory observation among six self-taught video editors.
All of the respondents were male belonged to the aged 20 and above.
Computer workstation with HDD and SSD and softwares like NLE, graphic editor, DAW and animation software were the post-production equipment used by the respondents. The respondents have good perceived practice level on navigation of GUI, capturing, editing, and finishing. On the other hand, they got average on archiving and distributing. The respondent’s best NLE practices were: copying and saving of videos into one folder; on-the-fly capturing; double system method; video and audio adjustments upon capturing; color grading and using simple transitions in video editing; use of third party software; online editing and use of multiple monitors; HD resolution rendering and using optimized workstation; and proper file naming and duplication of files in archiving.
Values and skills of the respondents were also identified like artistry, promptness, willingness to learn, resourcefulness, multi-tasking, patience and innovativeness. Also, the respondents encountered challenges in post-production. However, they come up with perceived solutions to these problems.
