Abstract:
The study was conducted at Alfonso Lista, Ifugao to evaluate the growth and yield of different corn varieties; determine the best variety of transgenic corn based on growth and yield; and determine the profitability of growing transgenic corn in Alfonso Lista Ifugao.
Significant differences among the nine transgenic corn varieties were observed on height at 14 DAP, plant survival at harvest, number of ears per plot, ear weight per plot and seed width.
Dekalb® 6818 and P30T80 were the tallest at 14 DAP. NK 8840 had the highest survival, most numerous ears per plot, widest ears and seeds. P3774YR also produced the widest seeds.
All the transgenic corn varieties evaluated were moderately resistant to downy mildew but susceptible to leaf hopper. No significant differences were observed on the actual and adjusted yield of the nine transgenic corn varieties. However, NK 8840 produced the highest actual and adjusted seed yield.
In addition, NK 8840 gave the highest ROCE of 159.5% while P3990YR, P30T80, P3774YR, Healer 101 and Tanduyong resulted in more than 100% ROCE.
