Abstract:
The study was conducted in Baculongan Sur, Buguias, Benguet to: determine the effect of intercropping bush snap bean on the growth and yield of potato entries; determine best potato entry/ entries that best respond to intercropping with bush snap bean in terms of yield; determine the interaction effect of intercropping and potato entries; and determine the economic benefit of growing different potato entries intercropped with bush snap beans.
Cropping system did not significantly affect the growth and yield parameters of the potato entries. However, significant differences among the potato entries was observed in most of the growth and yield parameters. Entry Po 305185 had the tallest plants at 75 DAP. At 60 and 75 DAP, entries Po 306521 and Po 303405 exhibited widest canopies. Most of the entries were highly resistant to late blight and leaf miner. In terms of yield, entry Po 306521 produced the highest marketable yield.
There was no interaction effect observed between cropping system and potato entries in all parameters. High return on cash expense resulted in intercropping entry Po 306521 with bush snap beans.
It is recommended that potato may be intercropped with bush snap bean to obtain high return on cash expense. Intercropping entry Po 306521 with bush snap bean is recommended to have higher yield and profit. Entries Po 306521, Po 303405, and Po 304416 are also recommended for intercropping with bush snap beans in Buguias, Benguet.
