Abstract:
This study was conducted at two schools at Baguio, City namely: UB and SLU from January to February 2016 to determine the monthly expenditure of students, to find out how students spend their allowance, to determine the factors affecting consumption expenditure of college student and to determine the problems encountered by college students regarding their allowances.
The data were gathered from 600 students, 400 from SLU and 200 from UB. The respondents from SLU received higher allowance. Working students and scholar grantees among the respondents and most of them are depending on their parents or guardian.
The highest monthly expenditure of the respondents went to food, followed by housing, clothing, books, recreational activities, transportation, school supplies, communication expenses, liquor and cigarette and the least was on health. The mean expenditure shows that students from SLU are spending a higher amount compared to students from UB.
The problems met by the respondents were the following: high cost of commodities, high transportation cost, and inadequate or insufficient allowance and others.
