Abstract:
The study was conducted from February to March 2016 at La Trinidad, Benguet. The managers of the subject cooperatives were asked to answer the constructed questionnaire to determine the organizational profile of the top 15 largest primary cooperatives as to: date registered, area of operation, business activities , composition of members as to: sex, regular and associate, and occupation; to analyze the performance of cooperatives based on PISO indicators as of 2014; to determine the administrative compliance of the primary cooperatives with the requirements imposed by CDA, BIR, and DILG; and to determine the training needs and problems of the primary cooperatives.
The cooperative were all functioning with multiple purposes. Majority of the cooperative operate region wide, Most of the cooperative were registered in the 1990’s and the rest in the 2000’s. Most of the cooperative offered credit/lending and various services.
There were different compositions of members in each cooperative and there were more female than male members in most of the cooperatives. Numbers of cooperatives in most of the cooperatives were over hundreds and some had thousands of members.
All the cooperatives were performing well for non-financial. For financial performance of the cooperatives, most of the cooperatives perform well in terms of profitability. Majority of the cooperative earned low points in institution capital. Most cooperatives did not have non-earning assets, they were not dependent on external borrowings and most cooperatives had slow turn-over of inventories.
