Abstract:
The study on the growth performance of growing-finishing pigs fed with chopped banana trunk as feed supplement was conducted on January 2015 to March 2015. Specifically, the study was conducted to determine the gain in weight, feed intake and feed conversion ratio of growing finishing pigs given commercial feeds supplemented with chopped banana trunk; and to determine the feed cost to produce a unit gain in weight of pigs give commercial feeds supplemented with chopped banana trunk.
Twelve 120 days old upgrade pigs, were randomly distributed into three treatments as follows: T1- 0 kg chopped banana trunk (BT), T2-0.5 kg chopped banana trunk, T3- 1kg chopped banana trunk. The feeding trial lasted for 60 days from 120 to 180 days old.
Results revealed that supplementing the commercial feed allowance of upgrade growing-finishing pigs with chopped banana trunk at the levels of 0.5-1.0 kg per pig per day did not improve nor reduce the growth performance of the pigs. The overall ADG was 0.65 kg. Though the total feed cost per kilogram gain in weight (Php) was not subjected to statistical analysis, results revealed that the highest total feed cost was observed from the pigs given 1 kg chopped banana trunk.
