Abstract:
This study on Assessment on the Investment of Farmers at Palina, Kibungan through different Kinds of Financial Institutions was conducted from January to February 2016 in Palina, Kibungan, Benguet. It aimed to find out the kind of financial institution where farmers are investing, determine the motivation of the respondents in investing, determine the motivation of the respondents in investing from said financial institution, find out the effect of investment to their financial and economic status, determine the frequency of investment and identify the problems encountered in investing.
Majority of the respondents’ source of income was farming and some also were teaching, working as barangay officials, selling clothing and jeepney driving. Most of the respondents invested in non- bank financial institutions like associations and cooperatives in the place. Some also invested in banking institutions and engaged in supply system and informal lending to friends and relatives.
The main factor that motivates the respondents in investing was for their children’s education and to increase their income. Majority invested a small percentage of annual income and most of them invested annually. Income from investment were used to support education of their children, purchase lot, house and cars and used in putting- up business or expanding business. The problems encountered by farmers in investing were the distance of the financial institution chosen, do not have time to invest because they were busy farming.
