Abstract:
The study was conducted to determine the prevalence of soil-transmitted helminth (STH) ova in Bineng, La Trinidad, Benguet. Sixty soil samples were collected from four collection areas: backyards, school playgrounds, living quarters and pathways. The samples were processed and analyzed by sodium nitrate floatation method and identified based on their morphological characteristics.
The prevalence of STH in Bineng is high at 71.58%. Further, the prevalence among the four collection areas were not statistically different. The most prevalent genus identified were Toxocara, Ascaris and Hookworms followed by Hymenolepis.
