Abstract:
This study was conducted at Baguio City from December 2015 to February 2016 to identify which among the tourist attractions in Baguio City is mostly preferred by the domestic tourists, the sources of information of the tourists about their area of destination, the purposes of the tourists in visiting the tourist attractions, the factors affecting their preference and the problems encountered in their area of destination.
The top five tourist destinations preferred by the tourists include the Burnham Park, Mines View Park, Philippine Military Academy, Camp John Hay and The Mansion.
The main source of information of the tourists about their area of destination are through their friends and relatives, media, travel agencies and their family members. The purposes of domestic travelers in visiting the attractions are for vacation and relaxation, exploration of the tourist attractions, family travel, to visit some friends and relatives and to attend trainings and seminars.
The results showed that the tourists were affected by the different elements of attractions as to natural beauty, historical value, climate condition and man-made attractions in the area. Moreover in terms of accessibility, the tourists were influenced by the availability of pathways, the ease of locating the area and the availability of transportation services.
The problems encountered in the area of destination were classified into self-related, environmental-related and people-related. The service-related problems are the lack of public comfort room, lack of security, lack of tour guides, unfriendly personnels and lack of accommodation facilities. The environmental-related problems are the sanitary condition and lack of signages posted within the area. The people-related problems are the dialect of the people, opportunistic business owner and unapproachable people within the area.
