Abstract:
This study was conducted to determine the level of knowledge and skills in computer applications among nurse learners. Specifically, it sought to determine the level of knowledge and skills of the nurse learners according to their sex, year level, and weekly allowance. There were 130 nurse learners respondents of Benguet State University. The descriptive survey research method was used and a questionnaire was the tool used in gathering the pertinent data.
Results indicate that all nurse learners of Benguet State University are highly knowledgeable with a weighted mean of 3.58 with the female having higher knowledge more than the males. Based on the level of skills learners were highly skilled with the mean of 3.62 and 3.55 respectively. The 4th year level nurse learners garnered the highest mean 3.72 described however all were highly knowledgeable. According to weekly allowance 500-1000 is higher than other allowances with the mean of 3.64, all described however are described as highly knowledgeable.
On the level of skills, the results show that the respondents were highly skilled with a weighted numerical mean of 3.62. According to sex the females and males garnered a weighted mean of 3.62 and 3.55 respectively described as highly skilled. The 4th year level nurse learners are higher than the other year levels with the mean of 3.72, 3.57 and 3.40 respectively described as highly skilled. According to weekly allowance, 500-1000 obtained the highest mean of 3.64 all described as highly skilled. There is Significant differences in the level of skills when compared according to sex and year level but there is no significant difference in the level of skills when compared according to weekly allowance. The computed coefficient of correlation was -0.00017 which is almost of negligible correlation.
It is therefore concluded that the nurse learners of Benguet State University are highly knowledgeable and highly skilled in computer applications. There are significant differences on the level of knowledge when grouped according to sex, year level, and weekly allowance. In skills, there are significant differences on sex and year level, but no significant difference when compared according to weekly allowances. Also, there is no significant relationship between the level of knowledge and level of skills on computer applications among nurse learners.
Based on conclusion the following recommendations are proposed. Firstly, nurse learners must learn the use of computer applications as early. Secondly, encourage facilitators to teach basic computer applications early to provide opportunity for younger generations to have an advance learning and experience on computer applications. Lastly, to conduct similar study to confirm the findings.
