It determined the relationship of the age, gender, civil status, year of graduation, year of employment, place of employment and type of work on the employment status of graduates of Benguet State University- Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
It was hypothesized that the employment rate of BSU-BSN graduates is high and that age, gender, civil status, year of graduation, year of employment, place of employment and type of work has significant relationship on the employment status of graduates of Benguet State University- Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Finally the degree of seriousness of the problems encountered in Science in Nursing is very serious.
This study was conducted in Benguet and Baguio for October 2012- January 2013 with the graduates of BSU- BSN batches 2006-2011 as respondents. A total of 395 graduates from six batches actively participated on the study. The questionnaires were administered through mail, Facebook and others were handed personally.
The researchers used Chi-square test, T-test for one sample, percentage and frequency. The data was then tallied, tabulated, analysed and interpreted.
Results revealed that the employment rate of BSU-BSN graduates is high with overall average of 73.84. Batch 2006 has the highest employment rate with 95.12 whereas batch 2010 has the lowest employment rate with 40.84%. Age, Year of Graduation, Year of Employment, Place of employment and Type of Work have significant relationship on their employment status. The degree of seriousness of the problems encountered by the graduates based on the study is lack of job opportunities with weighted mean of 2.26 while low board rating is the least considered problem with weighted mean of 1.51.
Based form the findings, the research concluded that BSU-CN established credibility and has good standard. Age, year of graduation, year of employment, place of employment and type of work affect the employment status of BSU- BSN graduates while gender and civil status do not affect the employment status of graduates. BSU- BSN graduates rated the problems encountered in seeking foe employment as serious.
Based from the conclusion, the following recommendations were drawn: For the BSU Administration, to look for job vacancies and inform the new graduates who are seeking for employment; The Office of Students’ Affair should link with other agencies regarding job opportunities to help the new graduates to be employed and they should also conduct job fairs to help the graduates of the institution; Encourage interested highschool graduates to take up nursing at the BSU- CN; Upon graduation and passing the board examination, nurses should grab opportunities to earn experience; For BSU- CN Faculty and staff to enhance their student’s capabilities to produce competent, skilled and competitive graduate nurses; and for the undergraduates, they should conduct another tracer study and have review of the employment status from 1994 to 2011 to continuously monitor and for information purposes. |
