The study was conducted to determine the inhibitory effect Kaolin clay against Malassezia at different concentration, “Head & Shoulder” shampoo and distilled water against Malassezia fungi.
The study was conducted at the Plant Health Clinic of the Horticulture Research and Training Institute, Benguet State University on April 2017. This study used the quantitative experimental research design was used. The completely randomized design was followed by five treatments, 75%, 50%, 25% concentration of Kaolin, “Head & Shoulders” shampoo as a positive control and distilled water as the negative control.
Result showed that Kaolin has an anti-fungal effect on Malassezia. There are significant differences in the effects of the five (5) treatment being studied. The 75%kaolin concentration was the most effective for the positive control treatment which is “Head &Shoulder” shampoo.
It was concluded that kaolin clay has an inhibitory effect against Malassezia. The treatment consisting of 75% kaolin clay concentration is the most effective among the three (3) different concentration of kaolin. This could be improved when purified or concentrated as the commercial “Head & Shoulder” shampoo. Considering the conclusions of this study, the researchers recommended to future researchers to conduct further studies on the effectiveness of Kaolin as shampoo variety, conduct studies using direct application of Kaolin clay solution on persons after clearance or certifications from authorized agencies that no toxic elements are present. |
