dc.description.abstract Adolescents are a stage of both disorientation and discovery. This transitional period can bring up issues of independence and self-identity. Adolescents rarely set their sights beyond the present, which explains younger’s teens’ inability to consider the long-term consequences of their actions. Many adolescents and their peer’s tough choices regarding schoolwork, sexuality, drug, alcohol, social life, and smoking. It has been very alarming that the prevalence of smoking among adolescent is high three are many factors why they start smoking. This is a descriptive study which aimed to determine the prevalence of smoking among adolescents in la Trinidad, Benguet. It also determined the reasons why adolescence smokes and what is their perception of how they will stop smoking. Further, this study was conducted in la Trinidad, Benguet from January 2017 to march, 2017. A total of 68 adolescents were randomly selected as respondents from la Trinidad. Moreover, the researchers used the chi-square and t-test to analyze and interpret the tallied and tabulated data. Result revealed that the adolescents of la Trinidad have a response of moderate on the contributing factors why smoke and their response to their reasons why they quit smoking is neutral. Based on the findings of this study, it is conclude that the smoking incidence among adolescents in la Trinidad is high; adolescents tend to smoke for their satisfaction. Adolescents do not smoke if they are aware of the harmful effects of smoking at a very early age and non-smokers are well aware of the effects of smoking. Recommendation of the study are included the following; strengthen a program about smoking cessation with the help of LGU in the barangay; the adolescent's stress should be addressed by the use of stress management activities such as counseling, regular exercise, deep breathing exercise meditation, and music. Student nurses are encouraged to be role models to the youths and talk about the ill effects of smoking as early as elementary: encourage the non-smokers to continue not to cigarette as a variable, barriers to smoking cessation; effectiveness of advertisements; and conducts a case analysis if there is any success of quitters of smoking (qualitative research) en_US
