This research dealt with the involvement of parents in the activities of elementary children. Specifically, it intended to find out the factors affecting parents’ involvement in school activities, the extent of parents’ involvement, the differences in the extent of parents’ involvement along educational attainment, number of children in the family and family role, the extent of effectiveness of the strategies used to encourage parent involvement along educational attainment, number of children in the family and family role.
The total enumeration of 92 parents were the respondents of the study from the three public elementary schools at Badeo, Kibungan, Benguet. A combination of descriptive and comparative research design was employed to obtain the relevant information using a survey questionnaire. Profile analysis was used to determine the significant differences on the extent of involvement along educational attainment, number of children in the family and family role.
The study found that encouragement, invitation and information dissemination are significant factors which greatly affect the involvement of parents in the school activities of their children. Parents sometimes involved themselves in the activities of their children. Significant differences in the extent of involvement according to educational attainment, number of children in the family and family role were observed. The strategies used by teachers to encourage parent involvement are moderately effective. Significant differences were observed in the extent of effectiveness along number of children and family role. No significant difference in the extent of effectiveness was seen along educational attainment. |
