dc.description.abstract The study was conducted at Peril, Alno La Trinidad Benguet from December until April, 2015 with three objectives: (1) determine the effects of two earthworm species on vermicast production, (2) determine some physical and chemical characteristics of the two kinds of worm castings, 3determine the economic value of the poduced cast. A ratio of 1:2:1:0.25 (manure, sunflower, rice straw and sawdust) substrates was used to produce vermicast by introduction of Native earthworm and the African night crawler. The vermicast produced by the two earthworm species were analysed for the Moisture content, CaO, pH, Nitrogen, Potassium, Phosphorous Organic matter content and Organic carbon content. Results revealed that African night crawler (Aisenia foetida) significantly affect the rate of decomposition because of its higher efficiency. There was no significant difference on the physic-chemical parameters between the two castings. It was recommended that (1) African Nightcrawler may be used for faster production of vermicast; (2) African nightcrawler is recommended for worm production; (3) Native earthworm is recommended for higher income; and (4) studies be conducted using the vermicast from the two earthworm to different crops for performance comparison. en_US
