Evaluation of Rooting Performance and Tuberlet Formation of the Different Yam Vine Parts Treated with Different Hormones

Abstract

The study was conducted at Barangay Bilis, Taloy Norte, Tuba, Benguet to determine the rooting performance and tuberlet formation of the different yam vine parts treated with different hormones, to determine the best hormone that would enhance the rooting performance and tuberlet formation of the different yam vine parts, and to determine the interaction effect of vine parts and rooting hormones on rooting performance and tuberlet formation of yam and to determine the profitability of treating yam vine parts as planting material treated with different hormones. The treatment of different hormones in vine cuttings did not have significant effect on rooting performance and tuberlet formation of yam. The different planting materials (PM) differed significantly on survival percentage, number and length of roots, number and weight of tuberlets, and equatorial diameter of tuberlets. Base and middle vine parts were significantly better in rooting performance and tuberlet formation than using tip vine parts as planting material. No significant interaction effects of the different hormones and the different planting materials were observed on all the parameters considered in this study. Higher ROCE could be realized in producing tuberlet in yam using middle vine part than base vine part as planting materials.
