The study was conducted at Benguet State University Experiment Station in Balili, La Trinidad, Benguet with the following objectives: (1) identify the best variety of pole snap beans as affected by different organic fertilizers based on growth and yield; (2) identify the best organic fertilizer that is suitable for pole snap bean seed production; (3) determine the interaction effect of variety and organic fertilizer on seed production of pole snap beans; and, (4) determine the profitability of pole snap bean seed production using organic fertilizers.
Among the three varieties, Alno variety emerged a day earlier than the other varieties. Moreover, it also produced the highest seed yield. On the application of the different organic fertilizers, pole snap beans applied with BSU compost produced the highest yield followed by the plants applied with PCM.
Significant interaction effect between the organic fertilizers and the pole snap bean varieties were not observed on the parameters measured in the study except on the days from sowing to emergence, total seed yield per plot and computed seed yield per hectare. Treatments applied with BSU compost and sunflower compost emerged a day earlier than the other treatments while Alno variety emerged a day earlier than the other varieties
For plants applied with BSU compost, CPV60 had the highest weight total seed yield per plot followed by Alno. CPV64 produced the lowest weight of total seed yield per plot. For plants applied with sunflower compost, CPV64 had the highest total seed yield per plot followed by Alno and CPV60 with the same total seed yield per plot. For plants applied with mushroom compost, Alno had the highest total seed yield per plot followed by CPV64 and CPV60 with the same total seed yield per plot. CPV64 had the highest weight of total seed yield per plot when applied with Vermicast followed by Alno then CPV60, which has the lowest total seed, yield per plot. For plants applied with PCM, Alno had the highest total seed yield per hectare followed by CPV60 and CPV64 which has the same total seed yield per hectare.
In terms of profitability, BSU compost gave the highest return on cash expenses. Among the three varieties, Alno variety gave the highest return on cash expenses. |
