Growth Performance of Colored Chicken Fed with Commercial Feeds Supplemented with Black Nightshade (Solanum nigrum)

Abstract

The study was conducted to determine the effect of Black Night Shade given as feed supplement on the growth performance of colored chicken at the Benguet State University from December 2015 to January 2016. A total of 120 straight-ran 29 days old colored chickens was randomly distributed into three treatments. Each treatment was replicated 4 times with 10 birds per replication. The different treatments were T0 – 0g black nightshade, T1 - 10g black nightshade, T2 - 20g black night shade. Result of study revealed no significant differences among treatments in terms of the initial weight, at 29 days final weight, at 60 days and gains in weight of colored chicken. Results of the study revealed no significant differences among treatments in the initial weight, final weight and the total gains in weight. The overall mean initial and final weights of the birds were 0.79 kg, 1.81 kg, respectively and 1.02 kg for the total gains in weight. Significant differences among treatment were observed in terms of feed consumption and feed conversion ratio, as fed basis. Giving chopped black nightshade leaves as feed supplement to the colored chicken did not improve the gain in weight and their ability to convert feeds into gain in weight.
