dc.description.abstract The study was conducted to describe the observable traits and its production environment and to measure the morphological characters of native pigs in Lamut, Ifugao from February 6 to April 30, 2016. A total of 148 adult native pigs comprising of 117 female and 31 males were used in the study. It was found that native pigs in Lamut, Ifugao are predominantly solid black in color with straight, short, and sparse hair. The back line is swayback with stocky body shape and straight head profile. The ear type is erect and pointed backward. The tail is straight and the skin is wrinkled. No pig was found to have tusk in the area. In general, height at shoulder, heart girth, hock circumference front and back, tail length, pelvis width and body weight were the only morphological traits that were significantly different (P<0.05) between male and female native pigs. However, snout length, ear length, head length, and body length of male and female native pigs did not differ. The overall mean morphometric traits of native pigs in Lamut, Ifugao were 15.38 cm for the snout length; 16.79 cm for the ear length; 26.34 cm for the head length; 52.48 cm for the height at shoulder; 77.21 cm for the heart girth; 13.38 cm for the hock circumference front; 13.1 cm for the hock circumference back; 6.9 cm for the hair length; 71.54 cm for the body length; 17.01 cm for the pelvis width; 32.55 cm for the body weight. The mean number of teats was 12. en_US
