dc.description.abstract |
The study was conducted in five selected barangays of Sagada, Mountain Province from December 2015 to January 2016 to evaluate the supply of tilapia, identify the peak season, and determine the factors that influence the supply of tilapia.
A total of 45 tilapia growers from selected barangays were chosen at random. Primary data was gathered through the use of a survey questionnaire.
Almost all of the respondents are in the middle age, are males, and are married. Majority had acquired formal education. Most had income of Php10, 000 and below and with household size of 6-10 members. Tilapia production started in the 1990s by few farmers but increased greatly from 2010 to the present.
Majority of the respondents harvested 50 kgs and below of tilapia during the latest cropping. The lean season is associated with the typhoon season.
Majority of the respondents had small pond sizes measuring less than 200 square meters and were stocked with two to seven fingerlings per square meter. Majority practiced feeding the tilapia two times a day. Majority sourced water from the springs. Seminars are the main source of information. The production of tilapia is primarily for home consumption. Pond size significantly affects the supply of tilapia. |
