Compliance with Minimum Public Health Standard of BSU-Nurse Learners

Abstract

Minimum public health standards were imposed to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Nevertheless, MPHS is likely to become more lenient as more citizens are immunized (Buhat, 2021; Gonzalez, 2021). While BSU-College of Nursing was the first and still employs a limited face-to-face mode of learning, the study was conducted. The research aimed to assess the compliance of BSU-Nurse Learners to the Minimum Public Health Standard. Furthermore, the study also discussed existing factors that affect learners' compliance. The study used a quantitative descriptive research design employing a correlational approach. Next in determining the participants, the research utilized total population sampling. Afterward, using a questionnaire called the Minimum Public Health Standards - Compliance Test (MPHS-CT) for Nurse Learners, the questionnaire was distributed to measure the compliance of each learner to the minimum public health standards (MPHS). Additionally, it further assessed BSU-Nurse Learners' Knowledge, Attitude, and Behavior (KAB) on COVID-19 and the MPHS. Mean values, Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney U test, Spearman's RHO, and Rank Biserial tests were used to determine the results of the study. The results revealed that the BSU nurse-learners are highly compliant, which means they follow the use of face masks, hygiene practices, and physical distancing. Still, higher year levels were shown to be more compliant, although there was no difference between male and female. On the other hand, it was proven that the respondents were well-informed about COVID-19 and the Minimum Public Health Standards and highly perceived that these protocols are significant and beneficial in controlling the spread of COVID-19. Whereas, the more knowledgeable they are on COVID-19 and MPHS, the more they comply, presenting a statistical correlation to the level of compliance. Whereas, whether they have a positive or negative attitude, their compliance is not affected. Promoting and reinforcing strong compliance to the minimum public health standards is still advised irrespective of vaccination status, changes in the municipality's alert level status, detection of novel variations, and COVID-19 transmission control.
