Competence of Level Four Nurse Learners of Benguet State University

clinical settings as beginner nurses. It is critical to ascertain whether they have met the outcomes required for their level.

The purposes of this study are to 1) determine the level of competence of level four nurse learners in relation to the 14 program objectives of the College of Nursing; and 2) determine whether there is a significant difference in the level of competence of level four nurse learners when Senior High Track, school type, entrance exam results, and general weighted average are taken into account.

The researchers used a comparative quantitative research design. The respondents were 132 level four nursing students from Benguet State University in 2021-2022, but only 105 consented to participate in the study. Data was collected using a questionnaire based on CHED Memorandum Order No. 15, Series of 2017, and the 14 program objectives of the College of Nursing. The weighted mean, ANOVA, and T-test were used in the data treatment. Through out the study, the researchers observed anonymity and confidentiality.

The respondents are moderately competent along the program objective. Type of school, Senior High Track and entrance exam result do not affect the level of competence of the respondents. However, the respondents’ general weighted average has a significant difference to their level of competence.

The need to improve their competence on the cognitive and psychomotor domains and for more exposure to different methods of learning such as training and reading new and updated articles are highly recommended. Additionally, the nurse learners should improve their GWA from moderately competent to highly competent. Future researchers may also choose to investigate additional factors that may influence learners’ competence.
