Level of HIV Awareness and Prevention of BSU College of Nursing Learners

Abstract

The rising incidence of HIV infection has been one of the global health concerns. Youths are at greater risk of acquiring the infection. They are a valuable resource for the future in disseminating information; thus, they must be aware of various health issues, including HIV, to protect themselves and maintain a healthy community. Awareness and prevention of HIV lead to longer and healthier lives, and it also helps reduce the risk of transmitting HIV to other individuals. The study was conducted to determine the Level of HIV Awareness and Prevention of BSU College of Nursing learners. The data was gathered through an online questionnaire among one hundred ninety-four (194) nursing respondents; there were forty-seven (47) males and one hundred forty-seven (147) females. The statistical tool utilized in the study includes percentage, mean, Phi Coefficient test, and Pearson’s chi-squared test. The study’s findings revealed that the nursing Learners are highly aware of HIV and are highly practicing HIV preventive measures in terms of sex and year level. Meanwhile, the computed chi-square is 8.85, which indicates a significant relationship between the level of HIV awareness and prevention of BSU College of Nursing Learners though it is weak positive. Research with a broader population on this matter is highly recommended for future discussion.
