Abstract

ABSTRACT The new paradigm of Outcomes - based education ensures that students acquire and develop the competencies needed in their fields. This move needs an evaluation on the feed-back of the graduates and employers on the competencies needed in the work place, to better improve the curriculum. This study intended to explore the feedback of the graduates of Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) of Benguet State University (BSU), and that of library directors and supervisors on the competencies needed in the actual work environment. Using a questionnaire and interviews, data were gathered from 19 BLIS graduates from 2011 to 2014, and from 10 library directors and supervisors. Findings revealed the following: 1) The graduates see themselves very good in the personal competencies needed in the work environment and were very adequately prepared in these competencies in their undergraduate courses; 2) The graduates consider themselves good in professional competencies and were adequately prepared for these competencies; 3) BLIS alumni feel the need to develop their information technology skills, managerial skills, and general skills; and, 4) Library directors and supervisors see personal competencies, man-agerial competencies, and research and publication competencies as necessary for new pro-fessionals entering the profession.
