Health Practices of Patience with Type II Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract

The study aimed to know the changes in health practices of patients with type II Diabetes Mellitus and how they cope with the stress brought about by the condition. Specifically, it sought to find the lifestyle changes experienced by the patient with type II Diabetes in terms of diet, exercises, and the occurrence of physical, psychological, and social stress. Moreover, the study aimed to find out the effectiveness of the coping mechanisms used by the patients. The study was conducted from December 2012 to January 2013 at the Diabetic clinic of Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center. Twenty-five respondents participated in the study. Data were collected from the respondents with the use of questionnaires. The data gathered were subjected to analysis utilizing the weighted means as the descriptive statistic and the T-test as the inferential statistics. The findings of the study show that there are no significant differences in the exercise of Type II Diabetes Mellitus patients before and after diagnosis. The level to which the patient experienced physical, psychological, and social stress is on the level of highly experienced, low experienced, respectively. The level of effectiveness of the coping mechanisms used by the respondents appears to be moderately adopted.
